This item is for older Japanese cars, but very useful if you have one. The package only contains a manual that tells you how to recover the codes on cars it applies to, what the codes mean and a few tools (jumpers,etc) necessary if they are called for. The system worked as advertised, and Actron shipped promptly.

Not a lot of help – R. Armandi – USA
I hooked it up and the unit sent a signal back to the dash with a series of flashes using the check engine light indicator. Looked up the problem codes and replaced the part (over 0.00 US) that was the the probable cause and the problem resurfaced. The unit is not equipped with accurate data read outs to give you enough data. Using the unit on my 1987 Supra was a waste of time and money.

If you open up the Actron CP9025 you will see the only thing it does is short two contacts so the trouble light on the dash will flash the stored codes. If you have the codes for your vehicle then you do not need the book that comes with the Actron CP9025. If you do not have the codes, then the book may be worth paying for the “scanner”. You can do as much with a paperclip as you can with this misnamed product.

The good thing about this scanner is the live – graphic data on OBDII vehicles. Also new automotive scanners must have CAN system (Controller Area Network) if they want to gather information from the vehicle. The ACTRON CP9190 comes with it.
You can find out about the code or codes, the meaning of the code(s), check the freeze frame data to see when the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Ligh=check engine light) came and in which conditions, It is really helpful when you do a diagnosis. With the Live data check the parameters of the condition of the engine. The only thing is that it doesn’t come with special test than other automotive scanners but other than that it is good equipment.

About a year on so ago, I priced a scan tool that did not have all of the features. The price of this scan tool was about 1/10 the cost, and dose a lot more. It updates from the internet. Not compatible with 64bit systems. Covers North American, Asia, and Europe from 1996 to present, and some pre-1996 GM, Ford, and Chrysler vehicles.

Unfortunately, I did my homework after my purchase, it comes with bad soft ware as my computer can not locate the auto scanner as a device so I can update. I purchased this unit and it only has information upto 2003 I bought it in January of 2010 and I CAN NOT update it on he internet. My research into on the internet comment reflect alot of people have this problem and ACTRON does not stand behind there product and fix it. I AM BUMMED!

I found the software easy to navigate and helpful. The tool satisfied my expectations. The tool will walked you through the processes. I would recommend the tool for the home shop. Remember that you will have to purchase another tool to do ABS work. The alternitive would be to buy a 00.00 plus scanner. So depending on how much work you are doing will dictate the decision.

The Actron 9180 scanner has worked flawlessly to read the codes on most of my vehicles. My Ford Crown Victoria required that I input the exact engine information to diagnose the Idle Control assembly failure that I was having. I also like the ability of this code reader to do tests while the vehicle running. Have used the tester on three vehicles so far.

This is a great diagnostic tool for the backyard mechanic to help diagnose complex system issues. It allows you to track and capture data with capabilities not found on basic scanners. Although not entirely entuitive on first use, when coupled with reading the owner’s manual, some great functionality can used.

It’s a case. nothing magical here. fits the scanner and the bag that came with the scanner perfectly. does a good job of protecting the scanner in my car. the local store had the scanner for 200$ i found it here with an OBDI wire and this case for roughly 30$ less as a combo deal. After seeing the abuse i have given the scanner, I’m happy i got the case. makes it harder to lose the little pieces too.

Paid for itself within a month…Easy to use and any wrench turner should be able to get along just fine with it. It will only give you codes and what they mean, you will still have to do research what they COULD be caused by. Its about a foot long and five inches wide and has a very durable exterior.
Yes, I love mine, with two Jeep Cherokees, a pair of 80’s Chevys and a fancy new Audi in the family I use it a lot!

The Super AutoScanner Kit allows you to easily retrieve, read, and erase OBD I and OBD II trouble codes, as well as display and read live vehicle data for a faster diagnosis. This sophisticated, yet extremely user-friendly tool includes the CP9145 base unit and can be used on OBD II compliant cars and light trucks sold in the U.S. from 1996 to present. The CP9150 kit includes additional cables to retrieve codes and live data for 1984-95 Ford and GM models, and 1989-95 Chrysler models. Plus, the tool is fully upgradeable, accommodating future vehicles.

The CP9145 base unit is built tough for both shop and road test use. It also features a large, easy-to-read liquid crystal display that shows the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and their definitions. And although you still have to fix the problem, the scanner will deactivate the “check engine” light on your dash so you’ll no longer be distracted while you drive. The scanner is easy to connect to your vehicle, and a user friendly menu provides a variety of information in a snap, including live engine data parameters (PIDs). Built-in help screens help you interpret the data, and you can view freeze frame data, which provides a “snapshot” of the vehicle’s operating conditions at the time of the fault. Meanwhile, an internal 9-volt battery stores the latest test results for later review.

Use the Monitor Status and I/M readiness (Inspection/Maintenance) function to determine if your vehicle is ready for an emissions test. I/M Readiness is an excellent function to use prior to having a vehicle inspected for compliance with a state emissions program, so you’ll have a good idea if your vehicle will pass the standards.

Another important thing to remember is that all emission testing facilities will fail a vehicle that has the “check engine” light illuminated at the time of the test–even if it is only lit to remind you of a past-due oil change or 60,000-mile tune-up. With this scanner, you can shut off the check engine light and pass the emissions test on your terms.

The menu also alerts you of any pending DTCs and reads the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) status. By reading the MIL status the scanner gives insight into what might cause your “check engine” light to turn on in the near future. In this way, the scanner also provides some preventive measures to help you keep a close eye on your vehicle’s systems.

The scanner comes with CD software that contains 5,000 Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and their descriptions.

I have had this scanner for about a month and half and this product has worked good for my needs and I would recommend it for your do it selfer.

I have only used it on a OBD I system so far. It works great for the 1989 buick century and 1990 Buick LeSabre. The check engine light came on the LeSabre plugged it in and showed me that the cam sensor was losing signal. Replaced the cam sensor and the car runs great again. So it works just like I wanted and expected.
